On 22nd April, under the auspices of Chinese National Health Commission (NHC) and Indonesian Ministry of Health, Indonesian Ministry of State-owned Enterprise, experts from Peking University First Hospital, Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University, Presidential Medical Team of Indonesia, Indonesia Healthcare Corporation, RSPAD Gatot Subroto Hospital, RSCM Hospital and more than 50 major hospitals across Indonesia held a video conference on diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 patients.

Three experts from the Indonesian side have actively initiated discussions on the new pneumonia Covid-19. dr. Fathema Djan Rachmat, CEO of the Indonesia Healthcare Group, dr. Dante Saksono Harbuwono, the Indonesian President ’s medical team, and Jona Widhagdo Putri, Indonesian international relations expert.

Jona Widhagdo Putri pointed out that this month mark the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia. As strategic partners and two good friends, China and Indonesia are working together to face an unprecedented global epidemic. Today, our medical experts share knowledge and experience with each other, use wisdom to solve various difficulties of new pneumonia Covid19 cases, and use friendship to face the crisis brought by the epidemic.

As remarked by Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Mr. Xiao Qian in the opening session, COVID-19 virus is the common enemy of humanity. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, Chinese President Xi Jinping has twice spoken on the phone with Indonesian President Joko Widodo to exchange views on jointly battling COVID-19. He hoped medical experts from both sides could share experiences in case diagnosis and treatment, so as to jointly enhance clinical management capability. He believed under the strong leadership of President Joko Widodo, the Indonesian Government and its people would surely prevail over the outbreak.

Indonesian Ambassador to China Mr. Djauhari Oratmangun expressed appreciation to the Chinese side for organizing the event, also to the Chinese government and its people for providing support to Indonesia since the start of outbreak. He believed direct exchange between medical experts of both countries would help Indonesia to enhance its diagnosis and treatment capability.

Mr. Nie Jiangang, Deputy Director-General for International Cooperation of NHC introduced China’s key prevention and control measures in fighting the COVID-19. He hoped to further strengthen cooperation with Indonesia in information sharing and technology, so as to enhance bilateral cooperation on tackling the outbreak.

During the discussion session, Dr. Wang Guangfa, Head of Respiration Department of Peking University First Hospital introduced Chinese treatment protocol for COVID-19 especially the experiences in epidemic prevention, clinical management.

Dr. Qian Juying, Deputy Director of Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University offered presentation on the hospital and COVID-19 diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Adityo Susilo from RSUPN Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital introduced Indonesia treatment protocol for COVID-19. Based on three typical cases, he presented the pathogenesis process and clinical measures in detail.

The medical experts from both sides held practical and in-depth discussion on issues such as diagnostic criteria, therapeutic drugs, discharging criteria, re-infection, virus variation and vaccine development.

Chinese experts patiently answered questions raised by Indonesian experts. The discussion session was co-chaired by Fathema Djan Rachmat, Director of Indonesia Healthcare Corporation and Dr. Dante Saksono Harbuwono from Presidential Medical Team of Indonesia. The video conference lasted for 3 hours and achieved great success.

During the closing session, Mr. Budi Gunadi, Vice Minister of the State-owned Enterprise of Indonesia thanked the participation of all the Chinese experts and congratulated on the successful conference. He spoke highly of China’s contribution to the global fight against the outbreak. He hoped to learn from Chinese experiences and work together with China to battle the outbreak.

Indonesia ’s Deputy Minister of State-owned Enterprise Budi Sadikin pointed out that in Chinese characters the word crisis “weiji” is composed of two characters, one is “danger (weixian)” and the other is “opportunity (jihui)”. While being in dangerous condition, we are also optimistic about seeing opportunities.

Indonesian international relations expert Jona Widhagdo Putri said that one of the most memorable ancient literature that she deeply reminisces back when she studied in China is “For Learning (Wei Xue)”: Is there a difference between doing something easy and difficult in this world? If we do it, then things which are difficult, can be easy to do; If we do not do anything, then things which are easy can be difficult to do. Is there any easy and difficult difference in learning by humans? If people want to learn, however difficult it is can be easily mastered, if people do not want to learn, then however easy it is will be difficult to learn.

Although this unprecedented epidemic brought a very difficult global crisis, during this most difficult time, China and Indonesia, based on the spirit of community of human destiny, we will learn from each other, learn from each other experience, and work together to face the new coronary pneumonia epidemic, and will definitely be able to successfully overcome this extreme difficulties.

As pointed by participants from Indonesia side, the video conference is very timely, practical, professional and successful. They hoped both sides could carry out more practical cooperation in medicine and vaccine development in the future, so as to further strengthen bilateral cooperation on fighting the virus.
